Nashik: The Nashik divisional has registered 12.36 % rise in its revenue through goods and services tax (GST) during April-Jan of current financial year 2019-20, as compared to the corresponding period last year.
The division earned Rs 2,590 crore during this period of the current financial year, against Rs 2,305 crore during the corresponding period last financial year, said officials from central GST. Central GST had collected revenue of Rs 2,825 crore during last financial year (April-March).
Nashik division of CGST has served notices to 1,500 tax defaulters for defaulting tax payment, asking them to clear their tax dues at the earliest.
The Nashik divisional office of the Central GST have jurisdiction of five districts – Nashik, Ahmednagar, Dhule, Jalgaon and Nandurbar. The jurisdiction of the Nashik divisional office of the State GST department (erstwhile Sales Tax department) is also the same.
There are over 1.25 lakh businesses registered with GST in Nashik division. Of which, maximum (65,000) businesses are registered with the Nashik divisional office of the state GST, while 60,000 businesses are registered by the Nashik divisional office of the Central GST.
The new tax regime GST came into effect from July 1, 2017 replacing multiple indirect taxes and traders with turnover below Rs 20 lakh were exempted from GST, while those with annual business turnover up to Rs 1 crore eligible for composition scheme.
The GST council made several changes in the past. The exemption limit had been increased from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 40 lakh and the businesses with turnover above Rs 40 lakh are under the tax net only.
BOX: Cultural event on Feb 6
The office of commissioner of CGST, Nashik division, has organised cultural event on February 6. This is for the first time such event is being organised with an aim to relive stress of its staff and promote arts and cultural qualities of their staff. The staffs of CGST from entire Maharashtra, except Mumbai zone, are participating in the event.
