Surat: A 47-year-old businessman dealing in sarees ended his life by consuming food grain preservatives at his home in Althan Canal road.

Anand Malpani’s family members informed the police that the deceased was upset after he suffered major losses in his business. Cops have registered a case of accidental death and started investigation.

Malpani was a resident of Aakash Earth complex and had a shop in textile market area. He was found unconscious at his home and died during treatment at a hospital. He is suspected to have consumed the tablets at around 9 am. His body was sent for postmortem and preliminary examination revealed that he died from poisoning.

Khatodara police confirmed that the family had revealed that the businessman was tense after suffering huge losses. While cops are yet to get the final PM report, preliminary investigation reveals he died from ingesting poisonous substance.

Police are yet to register statements of the family members. “The family was not in condition to be questioned. Police will register their statements once they complete the last rites,” said an official.
