SAO PAOLO - The vast majority of women in Brazil’s garment factories who took part in a new C&A Foundation-funded study said they had experienced bullying or gender-based violence and sexual harassment at work.
Entitled Promoting Human Rights and Strengthening Trade Union Action and Equality in the Brazilian Clothing Sector, the report concluded: "“For many women, work is synonymous with suffering.”
Some 246 textile and shoe workers in six cities - Colatina, Fortaleza, Ipirá, Pouso Alegre, Sapiranga, Sorocaba, and Sao Paulo - took part in the study carried out by the Instituto Observatorio Social non-profit research organisation and funded by the Brazilian branch of the C&A Foundation.
