Hyderabad: The State government has sought sanction of a Mega Powerloom Cluster at Sircilla under Comprehensive Powerloom Cluster Development Scheme (CPCDS) and also financial assistance of Rs 806.81 crore for setting up Kakatiya Mega Textile Park (KMTP) at Warangal.
Textiles and Handlooms Minister K T Rama Rao on Tuesday submitted representations to Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani, seeking the Centre’s support for setting up CPDCS.
In his meeting with Smriti Irani at her chambers in Udhyog Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday, Rama Rao explained that the State government conducted geo-tagging of powerlooms in Telangana State and discovered the presence of around 35,566 powerlooms across the State. Of this, about 25,595 powerlooms are existing in Rajanna Sircilla district alone. The State government was keen to establish the Mega Powerloom Cluster under CPCDS and submit a proposal for its sanction as well as development on the lines of Ichalakaranji (Maharashtra), Surat (Gujarat), Karanpura and Solapur among others.
However, the Minister said the State government was working with a unique intention for setting up a Weaving Park under Worker to Entrepreneur Scheme, Apparel Park and also restart the Common Facility Centre at the existing Textile Park in Sircilla, to achieve speedy results and generate employment to unemployed youth. The entire project’s outlay is estimated at Rs 993.65 crore for the same. “The funding from the Central government under CPDCS is Rs 50 crore and implementation of the Sircilla Powerlooom Clusters is likely to take huge time. Instead, I request the Union government to provide Rs 49.84 crore for filling various gaps in funds for setting up these three establishments under CPDCS to achieve speedy results,” he said.
The State government is also keen to establish Powerloom Development Corporation to look after various marketing strategies under powerloom sector. The Corporation will be the implementing agency and special purpose vehicle for the Mega Powerloom Cluster on behalf of the State government which will contribute a major share of Rs 756.97 crore for the project.
Further, Rama Rao requested the Union Minister to sanction early approval of Kakatiya Mega Textile Park proposed to come up in about 1,200 acres at Warangal and also sanction Rs 897.92 crore for infrastructure development of the project. He stated that the State government had entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 14 large textile and apparel companies promising a total investment of Rs 3,020 crore including a commitment of foreign direct investment amounting to USD 145 million from Youngone Corporation of South Korea.
The Minister also urged the Centre to finalise the policy for ‘Development of Manufacturing Regions for Textile and Apparel Sector (MRTA)’ to ensure that projects like Kakatiya Mega Textile Park benefit from the same. He sought an early approval for the proposals submitted by the State government under Integrated Processing Development Scheme (IPDS) for setting up a Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) with Zero Liquid Discharge at the Mega Textile Park.
KTR visits Delhi seeking funds for the State projects
Hyderabad: IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao, on Tuesday, called on Union Environment and Forest Minister Prakash Javadekar in New Delhi seeking his support for development of Hyderabad Pharma City. He briefed the Union Minister on the progress of Pharma City and discussed various issues which require the Centre’s attention to expedite the project.
The Minister, earlier, called on Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani seeking sanction of funds and approvals for Sircilla Mega Powerloom Cluster and Kakatiya Mega Textile Park.
Rama Rao, who is also the working president of the ruling TRS, held a meeting with TRS Parliament members at TRS Parliamentary Party office in the Parliament on the occasion. The MPs led by TRS Lok Sabha floor leader Nama Nageshwara Rao discussed various issues of Telangana State to be taken up with the Centre and sanction of necessary funds as well as permissions for several ongoing and proposed projects in the State. He also wanted them to focus on release of pending funds from the Union Government to the State government.
