There has been a 50% increase in the number of people filing of GST returns on the last day of filing for October, reveals data received from (CBIC) Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
According to CBIC data, 18.27 lakh people filed GST in comparison to 12.20 lakh returns filed a month ago.
"A total of 18.27 lakh GSTR3B were filed on November 20 alone in comparison to 12.20 lakh returns that were filed on October 20, the last due date of filing returns for the tax period of September," CBIC said in a press release.
The data also suggested that there has been a 9.4 per cent increase year on year in return filing.
In its statement, CBIC also said there has been a fair improvement in compliance by the taxpayers.
"The return filing data shows that there is a fair improvement in compliance by the taxpayers. It, also, shows that the GSTN return filing system was working smoothly within its expected limits," CBIC said.
CBIC also urged taxpayers to not wait till the last three days to file their GST returns as it leads to a delay.
Just a day before the last date of filing returns for October, many faced problems in filing the GST return and complained about it on social media. However, GST authorities clarified on Wednesday that there was nothing wrong with the return filing system.
