Standing out in today’s competitive textile market is tough, but high-performance and sustainability are key ways to meet demand.
At Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics, the fair’s All About Sustainability zone debuted in 2013, and the Functional Lab zone in 2015, cultivating a spotlight for on-trend products. Each product zone has since quickly expanded, following huge demand from the China market for innovation.

Paradise Textiles showcase products for today, without impacting tomorrow
Polyester is a huge eco-culprit due to the time it takes to break down in landfill – up to 200 years. However, Paradise Textiles, an arm of Alpine Creations, have introduced an exciting new polyester to join their other sustainable collections – the patent-pending Biofuze. In landfill conditions, Biofuze polyester can biodegrade in less than one year.
Mitsubishi Chemical offers exclusive access to pioneering products
Soalon™ – the only triacetate filament yarn in the world – was on offer at Intertextile Shanghai, from Mitsubishi Chemical. The company is FSC-certified, meaning that the wood pulp yarn is sourced from forests that are responsibly managed, both environmentally and socially.
Chori: on the pulse of new trends
At Intertextile Shanghai, Chori’s Intimate Apparel Department reported a lot of demand for functional products in China. It’s no wonder, as functional bras and body-shaping underwear sales in China are on track to see a growth of 750% from 2011 – 2020. Chori’s stand-out products include wearable biometric monitoring fabrics – made with silver fibres, this comfortable fabric can monitor the wearer’s ECG, heart rate and daily activity logs.
Hungry for more innovation? Toyoshima tackle waste reduction
As the Chinese government continue to crack down on water pollution, one eco-friendly option for fabric dyes is Toyoshima’s FOOD TEXTILE. The company transform food waste into natural dyes, in a range of stylish hues. Mr Rio Okabe, General Manager of Toyoshima’s Global Operation Department noted at the fair: “There’s increasing demand for high-price, high-quality fabrics here in China. They understand the quality of the products and are willing to pay for it.”
All these brands and more participated at Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics in March 2019 – and it sets an optimistic precedent for the 25th Autumn Edition.
