Armenia’s textile industry is not in the hands of one person. This is what Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declared during a discussion on the report on the activities of the government in 2018, responding to the question from Deputy of the Bright Armenia Party Mane Tandilyan.
The Prime Minister stated that the government also has some concerns.
“Usually, the textile industry has always grown in Armenia with a cheap workforce, and this is a matter of concern for the government. We don’t want Armenia to have a cheap workforce and understand that there are countries that can offer services that are cheaper than the labor market for textile industry in Armenia is,” Pashinyan explained.
According to him, the government needs to improve the quality of the textile industry in Armenia, which will help improve the quality of the output and raise the prices.
“Armenia has to manufacture $1,000-dollar vests, not vests costing AMD 5,000 because a more expensive product will generate demand, and this will ensure higher salaries,” the Prime Minister underlined.
