Over the past few years, Tirupur’s fabric and garment producers have been reportedly negatively impacted by the imports of ready-made garments and fabrics from Bangladesh. In light of this, a joint meeting was called for in the Tirupur Exporters Association with representatives from Tirupur-based groups of fabric and ready-made garment manufacturers.

As India's air cargo volume is expected to quadruple over the next two decades-the largest projected growth of any worldwide market-a rebound of the country's apparel exporters could further ignite this push.

India’s textile/apparel export hub of Tirupur, near Chennai, in Tamil Nadu state, is bouncing back from the days of frequent production cuts and disruption caused by a dearth of orders.

India's textile hub of Tiruppur is experiencing a remarkable resurgence, with apparel export units operating at near-maximum capacity and receiving a surge of orders from the United States and United Kingdom.

After almost two years, Tirupur, India’s textile hub, is seeing a resurgence thanks to a wave of orders from the US and the UK, as well as political unrest in Bangladesh, a neighbour. With their facilities running at 95% capacity, the city’s 5,000 garment export businesses are humming with activity.

The political unrest in Bangladesh could turn out to be a blessing for Tamil Nadu’s Tiruppur, India’s knitwear hub, which contributes to almost 55 per cent of the country’s exports in the sector.
