ZED is a Voluntary Certification and the ZED Scheme is applicable to Micro Small and Medium Enterprises of Manufacturing Sector Only. Its a Process based Certification, the ZED Maturity Model was developed by Quality Council of India to Empower the Indian MSME’s to be a Global Player. The Ministry of MSME – Govt of India has Launched a Scheme to Support MSME’s to get ZED Rating. The Scheme is applicable only for the 22,222 MSME classified companies.
However this will not stop the Large Enterprise to adopt ZED rating as the rating is a Maturity Model which aims to assist the Manufacturing MSME’s to be a World Class
An MSME will not be eligible to go for ZED Certification if the Legal & Regulatory Compliance are not followed. Hence ZED Certification would be a Good Choice for the Manufacturers to get recognized among their Buyers that they are Complying with the Legal & Statutory norms of the Nation. This could cut down the additional costs to the MSME’s on Various Compliance Practices.
Addressing the nation on India’s 68th Independence Day, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi urged the industry, especially the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) of India, to manufacture goods in the country with “Zero Defects” and to ensure that the goods have “Zero Effect” on the environment.
“We should manufacture goods in such a way that they carry zero defect and that our exported goods are never returned to us. We should manufacture goods with zero effect that they should not have a negative impact on the environment”.
ZED has presented a model where the concept of quality has a holistic change from a tool for compliance to a source of competitiveness.
The ZED scheme is an integrated and holistic certification system that will account for Quality, Productivity, Energy Efficiency, Pollution Mitigation, Financial Status, Human Resource and Technological Depth including Design and IPR in both products and processes. The parameters of the scheme will cover all aspects of the existing schemes of Ministry of MSME: Quality Management System (QMS) / Quality Technology Tools (QTT), Lean Manufacturing Competitiveness Programme (LMCS), Design Clinic and Technology and Quality Up-gradation (TEQUP), and Building Awareness on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).
