Ludhiana: Businessmen are furious over the state government and state taxation department’s failure to renew expired notification of within state e-way bill exemption limit of Rs 1, lakh.

The city businessmen are of the view that the lapse is causing them dear and it has also exposed claims of the government that it is the well wisher of the industrialists.

According to president of Sewing Machine Development Club Jagbeer Singh Sokhi, “It is nothing less than a big blunder done by the state taxation department that instead of getting the notification of e-way exemption limit renewed timely it just waited for the deadline to draw near and started penalising businessmen as per Rs 50,000 exemption limit only. We are shocked on the silence of finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal on this issue who otherwise always claims that he is very concerned even for the smallest of problems of businessmen but he must answer now that why is he not issuing any orders to the state taxation department to renew the notification.”

President of Knit and Fab Cluster Bhushan Abbi said, “Operating businesses have already become difficult due to the policies of the Modi government. Above that the Punjab government is making matters worse for us. When the exemption limit for within the state e-way bill was Rs 1 lakh, the micro and small industry was freely doing business but now everyone is scared to issue any bill above Rs 50,000 and they are finding ways to not to get into complex formality of e-way bill which requires equipment like computer, printer and also requires services of a skilled and tech savvy person. We are going to send a memorandum to finance minister to renew the expired notification and if nothing is done by the next week we will think of next course of action.”

A garment manufacturer from Karabara Road Harinder Singh said, “I think rather than issuing limited time period notification, the Punjab government should make it a law that e-way bill exemption limit for within Punjab transactions will not be less than Rs 1 lakh. This will solve the problem of having to issue the notifications again and again and loss of time like that in this case too its been more than two months now since the old notification has expired.”
