Tirupur: K Vijayakarthikeyan took charge as the new Tirupur collector on Wednesday. He was earlier working as the director of the Tamil Nadu Institute of Urban Affairs. Before that, he was the Coimbatore corporation commissioner.

He will ensure that public grievances are sorted out as soon as possible, Vijayakarthikeyan told reporters at the collectorate. “State government schemes including infrastructure, services and grievance redressal would be implemented effectively. There will be real-time governance. People can contact me any time,” he said.

He visited some shops in the city on Tuesday evening and interacted with shopkeepers and customers. A woman shopkeeper told him to safeguard the livelihoods of people.

A video clip showing the 34-year-old collector thanking his well-wishers was circulated actively on social media.

Vijayakarthikeyan is an alumnus of the Shri Ramachandra Medical College. He has written some books on preparation for the civil services exam.
