The Australian government has awarded funding to local companies supporting their efforts to expand in export markets.

In a statement, the Department of Defence (DoD) said on 9 September that it has awarded the firms funding of AUD1.85 million (USD1.3 million), with the money sourced through the Defence Global Competitiveness Grants initiative.

The funding includes support for local companies to procure specialist tooling, equipment to boost the production of explosives, equipment for product accreditation, testing facilities, tooling, and wire-cutting machinery.

Australia's Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price said, "The Defence Global Competitiveness Grants help Australian small businesses to build their export capability, which presents new opportunities in overseas markets."
