Bhubaneswar: State MSME and Industry minister Dibya Shankar Mishra recently stated that the state government has given high priorities to MSME sector in order to make Odisha a ‘one trillion dollar’ economy.

“Government is promised to take MSME not only to the Naxal affected areas of the state but also to the tribal populated areas. We are focusing on women’s economic empowerment and social security and also entrepreneurship,” said Mishra.

The minister also claimed that state government has lined up many development plans to strengthen MSME sector in Odisha. Mishra said that the ministry is focused on strengthening small entrepreneurs so that they can achieve their goals.

Earlier, in a MSME summit, additional Secretary of MSME department and MD of Odisha Small Industries Corporation Limited (OSIC) Prasanna Kumar Jena informed the media that MSMEs in the State are facing land, labour and financial crisis. Commenting on this issue, the minister said, “The state government is taking all measures to resolve the crisis. We are also in a mission to revive damaged MSME units after cyclone Fani.”

Mishra is hopeful that Odisha will succeed in achieving the target of one trillion dollar economy as it possesses rich mineral deposits. “There is availability of 53 per cent of bauxite, over 30 per cent iron ore and also 25 per cent coal in Odisha. So, we are confident to achieve the target. At present, the Indian economy is facing a slowdown but we expect to take the state’s GDP to greater levels,” he said.
