Ludhiana, August 28, It seems since the implementation of GST, tax payers are facing problems while filing GST returns till date.

For filing the annual returns for the year 2017-18 (when GST was implemented), the government has once again extended the date of filing GSTR Form 9, 9-A and 9-C till November 30.

Tax payers said after giving many representations, the date had been extended by the government. Another reason for giving another date was that even the annual income tax returns had to be filed before August 31, 2019.

Mantosh Gupta, a chartered accountant, said about 70 per cent of the tax payers had not filed GST returns for the year 2017-18. “Form 9C is for those whose turnover is above Rs 2 crore while 9-C has to be filed by the composition tax payers. Form 9 has to be filed by all individuals who have got themselves registered. The extension has come as a major respite for all tax payers and tax professionals,” he said.

Another CA Kailash Sehgal said another reason for the change in date was that both IT returns and GST returns had to be filed by August 31. “The clash in dates would have been too tedious for tax professionals too. Now, the tax payer can file the returns in phased manner,” said Sehgal.

Tax professionals also said there was no chance of income tax filing date to be extended for another period. “The flood-affected states may get a breather but more or less, IT returns have to be filed by August 31 after which there will be a penalty of Rs 10,000 per return till March next year. And if returns are not filed by tax payers even till then, they will lose the chance of filing returns for that particular period,” said Mantosh Gupta.

Gupta said GST was a good step, but even after two years of its implementation, the process was not being streamlined. The portal crashes when has to face huge rush of accesses.
