Director of Industries Pranabjyoti Nath on Monday hailed the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector for doing very well in procurement side.

At the same time, he observed that they are not good in availing benefitsof various Government schemes.

Addressing the concluding session of the Odisha MSME Meet 2019 organised by the Odisha Association of SME (OASME) here, he said, “The Government announced many schemes for entrepreneurship development.

But budding entrepreneurs are not keen to avail the benefits. That is the main reason why so many applications of entrepreneurs have been rejected by the Industries Department. Entrepreneurs need to be more aggressive to avail the schemes.”

He said, “On the procurement side, the MSMEs achieve desired results. Now, they have to work on the vendor development side.

This is the area which needs more attention from the industries. On the Government side, we are working on ease of doing business.

The Government will surprise the industry sector with so many attractive policies in future.”

Director-in-Charge, MSME-DI, Cuttack Dr SK Sahoo spoke about the various Government schemes for women entrepreneurs. On the procurement policy, he said, “The Government of India has mandated to procure 25% of products from MSME by PSUs. I suggest that the

Government of Odisha make arrangement for another 25% mandate so that the State’s MSMEs can sell their 50% products to Central and State Government PSUs.”

Others present were OASME chairman Gauri Sankar Dash and general secretary Satwik Swain.
