Academy launched to create ''robust'' leaders in textile units Coimbatore, July 19 : An academy was launched here Friday with an aim to equip employees in the textile industry with robust leadership qualities.

Said to be the first-of-its-kind industry initiative, the Indian Texpreneurs Federation (ITF)opened the ITF Leadership Academy at a time when businesses were facing challenges as well as opportunities, convenor of ITF Prabhu Dhamodaran told reporters here.

The academy would provide training to help individual managers in various member-organisations develop leadership qualities, he said.

The ITF academy has started three different courses for three different categories of executives in spinning mills, namely general manager, middle-level managers and supervisors, Dhamodaran said. A total of 284 middle-level managers from 51 member mills would be undergoing training in the first batch, he said.

Claiming 30 per cent attrition in the supervisor-level affecting the smooth functioning of the mills, he said each employee would attend one full-day course per month and 12 classes in one year, under six trainers from Chennai and Bengaluru.

Some of the topics would be team spirit, will to change and effective communication, he said adding that after a year, the service would be expanded to more member mills across Tamil Nadu, as ITF has about 650 mills as members.
